Have you noticed how many bible verse references look like a
date? For example:
- But do not
forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is
like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.
2 Peter 3:8
The last two numbers in a date form - 3/8 - could be March 8th,
or 3rd August depending in which part of the world you live. I
started a survey of verses using the first of these - month/day
- and made a few discoveries:
- There are over 31,000 verses in the Bible.
- There are 12,520 verses that provide a 'valid date'. For example
most of the others are in chapters 13 and beyond, or verse 32
and later.
- Of these 1,152 were selected. These were verses that made
sense as a single verse. For example most of the others didn't
provide the 'soundbite' like summary I was looking for, or are
part of a longer passage that is meaningless when limited to
a single verse.
- There is at least one verse for each day of the year that
is inspirational,
encouraging, or instructional.
- There is at least one verse
from every book of the Bible.
- Many days have
more than one verse.
So go ahead and pick todays date from one of the months below,
or your Birthday, and see what you find.... just another way to
encourage you to read the Bible :)
January
- February - March
- April - May
- June - July
- August - September
- October - November
- December
Do you have a website of your own? If so you can
easily display todays date verse on your own pages. Click here
